The sovereign, socialist, democratic republic of India came into existence on 26 th of January 1950. Since then January 26 has been celebrated as India ’s Republic Day, a great national festival. It is celebrated with grandeur all over India , the most spectacular event being held at Delhi . On the day Delhi witnesses massive parades and march-pasts of the three armed forces and folk dancers from different states in picturesque costumes marking the cultural unity of India .
